4/2/07 – Acquisition– Dublin, National Gallery of Irland – Ce musée a acquis, en décembre 2006, auprès de la galerie Canesso à Paris, un tableau représentant le portrait du théologien irlandais Luke Wadding peint par Carlo Maratta (ill.), dont elle possédait déjà une copie ancienne.

Né à Waterford en 1588, Luke Wadding devint franciscain après avoir fait ses études chez les jésuites. Après avoir séjourné au Portugal, il partit pour Rome en 1618 où il demeura jusqu’à sa mort en 1657. Il est notamment le fondateur du collège irlandais de Saint-Isidore et l’auteur d’un nombre très important de livres…
