13/12/06 – Acquisition – Paris, Musée du Louvre – Dans un article datant d’il y a un peu plus d’un an (voir brève du 20/9/05), nous annoncions l’achat d’un tableau de John Martin par la National Gallery de Washington et la volonté du Louvre d’acquérir une autre toile de ce peintre, Le Pandemonium (ill. ). Celle-ci pouvait bénéficier de la loi sur les trésors nationaux, mais le sujet et la faible notoriété en France de ce peintre - pourtant l’un des artistes anglais les plus importants - a probablement rebuté les entreprises mécènes.
