11/5/04 – Donation – Washington, National Gallery of Art – Un important ensemble de peintures et dessins américains du XIXe siècle vient d’être promis à la National Gallery of Washington. John Wilderming, le collectionneur, a en effet annoncé le 5 mai dernier que les œuvres qui font, jusqu’au 10 octobre, l’objet d’une exposition à la National Gallery pourront y rester définitivement. Un tableau de George Caleb Bingham (1811-1879), le Batelier du Mississipi (ill. 1) a été donné immédiatement au musée qui n’en possédait pas de cet artiste.
