16/5/18 - Acquisition - Madrid, Musée du Prado - Federico de Madrazo y Kuntz fut le grand portraitiste du XIXe siècle espagnol ; c’est l’un de ses chefs-d’œuvre qui a été donné au Musée du Prado en avril dernier : le portrait de Josefa del Águila Ceballos future marquise d’Espeja, daté de 1852, retravaillé en 1854.

Fils de José de Madrazo, peintre néoclassique réputé, Federico se forma à l’Académie royale de San Fernando vers 1831 avant de se rendre à Paris où il séjourna plusieurs fois entre 1833 et 1839. Il y rencontra Ingres dont l’influence est…
