13/11/11 - Acquisition - Oxford, Ashmolean Museum - Depuis 2003, un groupe en terre cuite de Clodion, représentant Le Christ en croix avec saint Jean et la Vierge (ill.), était en prêt à l’Ashmolean Museum. Ce musée a pu l’acheter, par l’intermédiaire de Gurr Johns Ltd, et avec l’aide notamment de l’Art Fund, pour un montant total de 234 000 £.
Il s’agit d’un modèle pour la Crucifixion en plomb doré commandée en 1785 pour couronner le jubé néoclassique de la cathédrale de Rouen édifié quelques années plus tôt. L’ensemble, qui comprenait également deux autels ornés chacun…
