16/1/19 - Acquisition - Richmond, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts - C’est une icône de la peinture américaine : Le Progrès (ou L’Avancée de la civilisation) est un tableau de l’une des grandes figures de l’Hudson River School, Asher Brown Durand. Il se trouvait dans la collection de Jack Warner avant d’être vendu plusieurs millions d’euros en 2011 ; il a finalement été donné au Virginia Museum of Fine Arts en décembre 2018 par son actuel propriétaire, resté anonyme.

Peint en 1853, il fut commandé par Charles Gould (1811-1870), financier et industriel dans les chemins…
