A first Hammershøi for Chicago
27/9/23 - Acquisition - Chicago, The Art Institute - The Art Institute of Chicago continues to make spectacular acquisitions, adding Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi to its collection for €8,397,322. Acquired from Sotheby’s New York on 16 May after being sold for just over €7 million under the hammer, Interior. The Music Room, Strandgade 30 (ill. 1) has joined the museum’s important European department, which includes another recently acquired Scandinavian painting, Ad Astra by Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, purchased from his descendants in 2017 (see below).
