Un portrait d’acteur de Samuel de Wilde acquis par Chicago

21/4/20 - Acquisition - Chicago, The Art Intitute - C’est un petit homme au visage rougeaud, coiffé d’une perruque ridicule : cette plaisante effigie (ill. 1) est celle de John Quick (1748-1831), l’un des plus grands acteurs comiques anglais de sa génération. Ce portrait, aux dimensions modestes, a été peint en 1792 par Samuel de Wilde et vient d’être acquis [1] par l’Art Institute de Chicago auprès des marchands Lowell Libson et Jonny Yarker [2], spécialisés dans l’art britannique, qui l’exposaient à l’automne 2019 à la Tefaf New York.
