The Majid Boustany Fund, created in 2020 as part of the Endowment Fund of the Musée du Louvre, will now permanently finance a scholarship for the benefit of the Musée du Louvre, as well as a new prize, the Prix Denon, aimed at rewarding research work in art history.

The Majid Boustany research grant, worth 10,000 euros, will be awarded each year to a student of art history, archaeology or museum studies, without restriction as to period or geographical area. The new scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2024: a call for applications will be issued at the beginning of 2024, and candidates must submit their applications by June 15, 2024. The winner will be announced in September 2024.

Candidates may come from a wide range of doctoral schools in France: École du Louvre, Sorbonne Université (Paris I), Université Paris-Nanterre, EPHE (École pratique des Hautes Études), Université Paris- Sorbonne (Paris IV), Université Sorbonne- Nouvelle, EHESS, École des Chartes, Université de Lille, Université de Strasbourg, Université Bordeaux Montaigne, Université de Poitiers, Université d’Aix-Marseille and Université de Tours.

The Denon prize, worth 12,000 euros, will also provide support for young researchers who have defended a doctoral thesis in art history, by introducing an annual award to enable publication. The first year of the award will be 2025, the bicentenary of the death of Dominique-Vivant Denon, the first director of the Louvre Museum.

"Majid Boustany’s commitment will ensure the long-term funding of two valuable initiatives for our institution in a field that is particularly close to my heart: art history research and the dissemination of knowledge."
Laurence des Cars, President and Director of the Musée du Louvre
