18/3/06 – Acquisition - Castres, Musée Goya - Grâce à la biographie très détaillée que lui a consacrée Palomino, la vie et la carrière de Sebastián Muñoz sont bien documentées. Né en 1654, il n’appartient pas au groupe de peintres qui créent le baroque madrilène (Francesco Rizi, Carreño de Miranda, Herrera le jeune...) à travers de grands retables luministes (héritage de Vélasquez), contrastés, où les influences vénitienne, italienne et flamande se mêlent, mais à la génération suivante, celle des derniers grands peintres du Siècle d’or.
